Customer had no cooling but noticed everything was running.

Solution:

After running a few tests the JDK technician found the system low on refrigerant.  A leak check was performed with an electronic leak detector and a refrigerant leak was found on a copper tube inside the condenser.  The remaining refrigerant was removed from the system using a reclaimer and the copper tube was repaired using an oxy/acetylene torch set and solder.  The system was pressure tested, which it held, evacuated to over 600 microns of vacuum and recharged with new refrigerant to factory specifications, per instructions on inside panel of condenser.

 Result:

The system now has no leaks, a complete refrigerant charge and cools properly.

Time Required:

Twenty minutes to locate problem and one hour to fix problem. Total time required including system check: 2 hours 30 minutes.

Customer had no cooling and noticed entire outdoor unit was not coming on.

Solution:

When the JDK technician inspected the customer’s system, he was able to observe the malfunction. The problem was due to corroded low voltage wires inside the condenser, because the house is near salt water.  The low voltage wires were repaired with new wire nuts.

 Result:

The condenser comes on and the system works properly now.

Customer had no heat and noticed compressor was not coming on.

Solution:

When the JDK technician inspected the customer’s system, he was able to observe the malfunction. The problem was a faulty dual capacitor and the solution was to replace the capacitor, which he did immediately since he had the part on his truck.

Result:

The compressor comes on in heat and the system works properly now.

Ten minutes to locate and fix problem. Total time required including system check: 45 minutes.

UV lights do not clean the air; rather they clean the air handler unit. The air handler must be cleaned thoroughly before the UV lights are installed.

Some HVAC companies use scare tactics to sell UV lighting equipment by telling customers that they are breathing mold, for instance. However, JDK Heating and Air Conditioning has only sold five to ten UV lighting systems over the past four years. Every customer can benefit from UV lights, but only some people actually need them. We thoroughly inspect our customers’ heating and air conditioning systems before making a recommendation that is right for them. We never sell equipment or services that are not needed.

Typically, it takes less than 1 hour to perform a professional UV lighting installation. The usual cost quoted by other companies is in the $1200 – $1500 range, but JDK Heating and Air Conditioning typically charges only about $700 for this service.

A customer’s monthly energy bill suddenly doubled. The JDK technician inspected this older A/C system and discovered that the heat strip had broken and metal wires had fused together. An element link had broken and shorted to the metal, causing the heat strip to stay on.

One hour, including re-wiring , resetting customer’s thermostat and checking the overall A/C system.

A customer had trouble when entering a temperature change into his thermostat. When the temperature change was entered, the outside unit started, but no hot or cold air came through the ducts.

Solution:

When the JDK technician inspected the customer’s A/C system, he was able to observe the malfunction. The problem was a faulty indoor fan relay and the solution was to replace the fan relay, which he did immediately since he had the part on his truck.

Cleaning a Coil With Water

Keeping your outdoor coil clean is also a preventive measure that will help reduce your energy consumption as well as prevent strain on major components in your system. Turn off power to the outside unit (condenser) and wash down the entire coil with fresh water. Leave power off to the unit for approximately 15 minutes, then turn the power back on. If you live near a saltwater environment this will also help prevent premature rust and corrosion of your outdoor unit.
